Mistfall Hunter has six playable classes, each with two distinct weapons or playstyle branches. Here is everything you need to pick a starting class — roles, weapons, strengths, weaknesses and how class switching works.
| Class | Role | Weapons / Branches | Difficulty | Damage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mercenary | Frontline fighter | Hammer · Sword & Shield | Beginner friendly | Physical |
| Sorcerer | Ranged burst mage | Staff (Elemental / Stardust) | High | Magic |
| Blackarrow | Ranged DPS / scout | Bow · Javelin | Easy–Medium | Physical |
| Shadowstrix | Assassin / rogue | Dagger · Dual Blades | High | Physical |
| Seer | Support / healer | Catalyst · Mace | Low mechanics, high game sense | Magic |
| Withered Knight | Tank / bruiser | Greatsword · Polearm & Shield | High | Physical |
Note: there is no class called "Rogue" in Mistfall Hunter. When players search for a rogue build, they mean Shadowstrix, the stealth assassin — see the Shadowstrix section below.

Weapons: Hammer · Sword & Shield · Difficulty: Beginner friendly · Damage: Physical
The Mercenary is the versatile melee fighter: durable, easy to learn and effective in both solo and team play. The Hammer path excels at heavy stagger pressure, gap-closing and AoE damage (Hammer Dash, Earthshaker). The Sword & Shield path is a balanced, defensive style built around blocking, perfect parries and counterattacks, with stacks that pay off in a big Stacked Slash.
Strengths: strong frontline presence, great survivability, reliable in solo and trio. Weaknesses: limited ranged pressure, vulnerable to fast/mobile enemies, heavy weapons punish poor timing. The Mercenary is the recommended starter class for most players.
Weapons: Staff (Elemental / Stardust) · Difficulty: High · Damage: Magic
The Sorcerer is a glass-cannon mage with a wide range of explosive firepower — Fire Bolt, Thunder Pierce, and the Starfall school — plus defensive tools like Forbidden Gate and Mistwalk. Its two branches are Elemental (fire/lightning pressure) and Stardust (burst damage). It is one of the most complex but most rewarding classes in the game.
Strengths: huge burst, zoning, strong in trios and PvE. Weaknesses: small health pool, punishing when skills are on cooldown, not recommended for solo beginners. See the Sorcerer build guide.
Weapons: Bow · Javelin · Difficulty: Easy–Medium · Damage: Physical
The Blackarrow wields the Bow (and later the Javelin), starting fights from far away — often from high ground — with an arsenal of situational arrows and Shadow Step for repositioning. It is a great pick for players who like to outsmart and outposition opponents, and one of the strongest classes at launch in both trio and solo play.
Strengths: safe ranged DPS, excellent kiting, straightforward to play, strong in PvE and PvP. Weaknesses: needs good spacing; hard-countered by a good Seer or Withered Knight.
Weapons: Dagger · Dual Blades · Difficulty: High · Damage: Physical
The Shadowstrix is the rogue/assassin archetype: stealth, poison, crows and burst damage. Daggers are the closer/escape tool; Dual Blades are the main damage weapon, with skills like Crow Storm, Spinning Slash and Bloody Blade Dance. It is the strongest solo class in many tier lists thanks to invisibility — just remember that invisible Shadowstrix players give off a heartbeat sound.
Strengths: elite in PvP, can slip past enemies to loot and extract, ambush potential. Weaknesses: struggles in hard PvE boss fights, very low error tolerance. If you came looking for a "rogue build", this is your class.

Weapons: Catalyst · Mace · Difficulty: Low mechanics, high game sense · Damage: Magic
The Seer is the only true support class: healing, shields and runes like Punishment Rune and Binding Rune. If you prefer the Mace over the Catalyst you can embrace the aggressive Blasphemer branch instead. The Seer is a great trio pick (healing wins long fights) but is generally not recommended for solo beginners.
Strengths: best sustain and utility in the game, strong in trios. Weaknesses: low damage output, hard to pick up, healing is wasted in solo play unless you play Blasphemer.
Weapons: Greatsword · Polearm & Shield · Difficulty: High · Damage: Physical
The Withered Knight is the closest thing to a tank, choosing between an aggressive Greatsword or a defensive Polearm & Shield. Skills like Breakthrough Charge, Radiant Retribution, Intervene and Sacred Bulwark let it protect allies and apply Wither debuffs. Several outlets rank its Greatsword branch S-tier when played well, but it is one of the harder classes to master.
Strengths: massive damage with Wither debuffs, super-armor charges, strong in PvP duels. Weaknesses: slow and punishable if pressure lapses; Polearm & Shield is currently considered weaker (a buff is expected).
After the tutorial, finish the next quest and you will unlock the option to change classes by talking to Dew. You can switch freely, but keep these rules in mind:
There is also a practice ground at camp, so you can test classes without risking any loot.
